What it is: Christa Sobier, Cicerone and certified cider professional, opened this Park Slope beer bar and bottle shop in the fall of 2020, when many local beer enthusiasts were still mostly drinking at home. This kind of curated selection was a lifesaver. Since then, Sobier has nurtured the spot into a welcoming neighborhood gathering place, featuring a tap list that highlights refreshing craft staples, classic European styles, and esoteric, gotta-try-it gems (including a steady presence from Scotland’s Epochal). Minimalist and full of natural light, this is a relaxing spot for getting some work done or meeting friends to sip anything from wild ales to traditional Czech pours.
Why it’s great: Sobier has a knack for picking spontaneous and mixed-culture beers as well as European-style lagers—but Beer Witch isn’t a place that turns up its nose at IPAs, stouts, or fruit beers—all preferences are welcome here, including nonalcoholic ones. The bartenders are deeply knowledgeable and eager to help patrons find new favorites. The bar also consistently runs thoughtful event programming—this is where to celebrate Saison Day, Cider Week, brewery anniversaries, Pride Week … or join a book club.
